  Naval History and Heritage Command:

  Supplied the army of liberation in Normandie in 1944. The John Hay was one of the few merchant ships which reported firing at an E boat. Two [Navy Seabee] Construction Battalion personnel aboard were hit by flak on June 10 and one Armed Guard was injured on June 11.
