He was a very proud Irishman who went on to work for Ditlev Simonsen until 1961. He was fluent in Norwegian, married a Norwegian (my Mum) and they both immigrated to Australia. It was many years before he claimed his medals for WWII. They are listed on the attached letter.
My father's name is spelt in the traditional Irish way but he usually used Denis Maher. He was Irish but had a British's Seaman's Card. I have attached a copy of his Seaman's Card for your reference and a copy of his Sjømannskontoret which shows him working on the Helgøy.Sources
