"9/4/40 finishing exam at the navigational school Ålesund. After occupation escaped in a fishing vessel and went fishing west of GREENLAND. Joined R.Nor.N 1/11/40 as a Q.M. Served as skipper of a R.Nor.N. fishing vessel and as a deputy to the third officer in H.Nor.M.S.NORDKAPP in Iceland till he in spring of 1941 entered a Norwegian naval sub.lt. course. Sub.lt.R.Nor.N.V.R. 18/7/41. Later service as an officer in H.Nor.M.'s patrol vessels in U.K. and Iceland."
"Lieutenant EIDSHEIM was awarded the D.S.C. for his work in command of S/C ["Hitra"] while engaged in irregular supply operations from SHETLAND to the West Coast of NORWAY during the season 1943-1944.
From August 1944 until 8th May, 1945, Leiutenant EIDSHEIM carried out 29 further trips in ["Hitra"] across the North Sea, landing men and stores on the enemy-occupied coast. He displayed throughout high qualities of courage and seamanship, and could always be relied upon to execute an operation with the mixture of dash and commonsense necessary to the success of the important clandestine work on which he was engages. It is recommended that Lieutenant EIDSHEIM be awarded a Mention in Despatches."
