  Følgende basert på kilder fra M.P.I. Section, Police Headquarters, Sydney, date 31st July 1942:

  "Alien (Hans) states born at Lyngdal, Norway, 19/5/1909 to school until 14 old, 1 year at home in native country, farming. At 16 old to sea, travelling to Finland, Germany, South America, Norway, where he stayed for 6 months. To sea again travelling between Holland and Norway for 8 months, then to Spain, Portugal, England, Africa, France, East Indies and Singapore where he left ship to go to hospital where he was detained for 10 months. Then joined the "Nordness", sailed to Australia, arriving on 13/4/1942".

  Etter å ha avmønstret M/S NORDNES, hadde Tjomsland et sykehusopphold på 11,5 uker på St. Vincents Hospital.
